Mark "Muleman" Massey - One Step Ahead Of The Blues
Mark "Muleman" Massey is tearing up the South with his brand of hill country and soulful blues. The album features Mark on vocals and guitar, Grammy-award winner Billy Earheart on piano and organ, and seasoned Memphis veterans Dave Bennett on bass, and Walter Polk on drums. Junior Kimbrough's son, David, showed him how to play guitar. When Mark got out of Parchman Prison twenty years ago, bluesman Big Jack Johnson became his mentor and dear friend, and gave him the nickname, "Muleman". Mark and his band have played with BB King at his homecoming in Indianola, MS, The Howlin Wolf Festival in West Point, MS, The Chicago Blue Festival, Bentonia Blues Festival, Juke Joint Fest in Clarksdale and many others. They have also won two different International Blues Challenge qualifiers in Indianola and Rosedale, MS respectively. Mark is the youngest white bluesman on a Mississippi BluesTrail Marker (Parchman Prison Band). Performances in juke joints, parties, clubs and festivals all over Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas have proven this smoking, real-deal blues artist and band are ready to take their show to the another level ! "One Step Ahead of the Blues" was produced by Memphis songwriter and recording legend, Don Nix and features special appearances by Bobby Rush, Willie Clayton, Eric Gales and Don Nix. It’s pure vintage Stax meets Malaco and Muscle Shoals. Strong songs delivered in a style uniquely Mark's !
